How can Hypnotherapy help me?

Hypnotherapy can be used to change unwanted habits for example quitting smoking or weight loss.  It can also help clients who suffer from physical symptoms and conditions (including migraine, sexual dysfunctions, high blood pressure, and sleep disorders).

It is effective in treating psychological symptoms (including anxiety, stress, insomnia, phobias, depression, and the effects of past trauma) and life issues (limiting behaviours, career change, divorce, relationship crises).

Other medical applications include pain management, use during dental work, comfort during birth, and enhancing comfort and healing before, during, and after surgical procedures.

In a nutshell, hypnotherapy can generally help with any problem you’re finding hard to handle on your own – thoughts and actions you’d like to banish or acquire, or emotional suffering that is too overwhelming or has gone on too long.

What happens during a session?

At our first meeting I will carry out a full consultation to establish what you wish to achieve through hypnotherapy and to enable me to create a treatment plan.

You will be asked to make yourself comfortable in a chair and guided to a place of deep relaxation where you are always in control.  Some sessions may involve guided imagery, others will be more talking and interactive.  This will depend on right approach for you.

Sessions last approximately 1 hour and are tailored to your own personal needs using different techniques to enable you to achieve your goals.

At the end of the session you will feel relaxed and alert.  In some cases you may feel emotional and that’s fine.  Appointments are best made for a time when you do not have to rush back to work and will have the opportunity to just ‘be’ for a while.

Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand!  Therapy is a 50/50 process –  you will be given tasks to carry out and cd’s to listen to – the more you are able to commit to the process, the greater the results!

How many sessions will I need?

There is no definite answer to this question as every person is different and every issue is different.  As a guideline,  habits such as smoking, nail biting or hair pulling can be helped in 2 -3 sessions.

More complex problems such as fears and phobias and emotional issues such as lack of self-confidence can be improved in 3-6 sessions.

Deep-seated emotional issues can require more long-term therapy in the form of hypnoanalysis which can require up to 10-12 sessions. This would always be discussed with you at the point where it is identified as a requirement.
